Abstract:
A preliminary study of 2 rural communities in Ethiopia assessed the impact of income on the nutritional status of children. Comparison is made between farmers producing khat (used as a stimulant and produces considerable greater (ca. 3-fold) incomes than other cash crops, including coffee) and those not producing khat. The results indicated that the nutritional status of children in khat-producing farm families is similar to that of children in other farm families. Anthropometric measures on neither the youngest nor second-youngest child in the household is predicted by income
